One interesting thing about this tour is that the trek, only a 13 km walk from Laka Glacier, is close to the snowline. If you’re seeking a long-weekend hike, this is one of the best and most popular short-term walks you can do. From July the glacier is beginning to melt and there is no snow on the glacier during the post monsoon period and you see only moraines, while the snow on the glacier is full during the pre-monsoon period from March to June and it is the best time to hike to the glacier of Laka.
Your trek starts at Bhagsu Nag and begins with the steep climb to Triund. You pass Oak, Rhododendrons and Deodar Breeds, before you enter a big mountain pasture called the Triund Peak, from where you can admire the spectacular views of Kangra Valley and Dhauladhar.
Take the Lake Glacier Trek in Mcleodganj by yourself from Bhagsu Nag village, near McLeodganj hill town. After a sumptuous breakfast meal, your trek begins at 8:30 am. The path crosses the towns and then begins to ascend. Climb up and see the mighty and almost vertical mountains of the Dhauladhar range and the Kangra Valley, through pristine deodar woods. Continue on a ridge, perpendicular to Triun – another ridge, through the forests of oak and rhododendron bush. Go through the latter form of land to a grassy meadow for an overnight stay in camps.
A new journey is awaiting you in the morning. You will start to walk towards the last stretch of Laka Glacier after a succulent breakfast meal. You’ll walk along the glacial moraine to Khabrotu and get a magnificent look over the range of Dhauladhar. Click on the pictures of the whole scene and descend to the glacier of Laka. During March to May, the glacier persists in snow and continues to melt after mountains. Please invest a decent amount of time in the glacier and return to Triund for the night in tents.
The final stage of the Laka Glacier Ride near McleodGanj will commence in the early hours of the day and it will be also the easiest. The distance traveled today is around 14 kilometers, but it is no heavy burden on your body as it is a downhill walk. Through the town of Laheta, you pass another road. Your trek finishes by the waterfall in the village of Bhagsu. At the conclusion of the trek, you can check-in on your own at the hotel or spend the remainder of the day at your own discretion.
